Earth colour paintings have deep roots in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka, being a country with proud history, culture and civilization boasts of a highly developed society backed by the economic prosperity during the period of Sinhala kings, as ample evidence still there to be seen to prove this argument. Paintings found in "Sigiriya Rock" and Lanka Thilaka Viaharaya & Gal Viaharaya in Polonnaruwa are fine examples for this. The paintings found in both these places are of earth colours.
As I was so impressed by these paintings I studied the techniques and subject thoroughly and carried out experiments on and on until I get all the necessary knowledge and understanding.
Earth of different and brilliant colours are collected from various parts of the Island' and are ground well firstly. Thereafter it is mixed with some gums extracted from some tree varieties, and prepares a mixture for paintings. This method is known as earth colour paintings. Uniqueness of this painting is of their Eco-friendly nature and long lasting. More over, they are eye friendly and pacify the viewers. Resist to any weather or climatic condition is their another uniqueness.
My sole request is to art lovers and persons with aesthetic understanding and thinking around the world to add earth colour paintings to their artistic collection and experience their uniqueness. |
